Burt is Executive Director of Hawaii Open Data, a 501(c)3 public charitable organization dedicated to advancing the adoption of open data/API standards and the development of solutions capitalizing on open data in Hawaii. He and his co-founders have organized several events to advance open data principles in the Aloha State, from hackathons to unconferences and numerous presentations and panels at technology events. In 2013, Lum spearheaded the successful effort to pass open data laws at both the Hawaii State Government (HB632, now Act 263) and Honolulu City Government (Bill 53) levels. Lum has long advocated and championed local technology initiatives, and co-hosts a weekly live radio show focused on sci-tech at Hawaii Public Radio.

I benefitted from the open data access for Campaign Spending reports -- its helpful, and allow one to look at what the data means in aggregate ways. Something that is VERY needed when looking at who gives money to what politicians.
