  1. City of Austin, TX!

    - In their 2011 Citizen Survey results, Austin also ranked No. 1 in satisfaction among 13 cities with populations of more than 500,000: 65% in Austin versus the average of 42% for other cities including Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Seattle and Boston.
    - Austin has always been a big advocate of citizen engagement. They launched a "SpeakUpAustin" campaign to increase citizen involvement in government. They've actively engaged nearly 1,000 people from the community into their decision-making and prioritization process.
    - Currently, they are even soliciting feedback on their new website design! http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/news/cnews.cfm?nwsid=4308

    Very impressive!

    • OpenDataPhilly.org

The OpenDataPhilly.org web site launched in April 2011. Unlike most open data sites, this was developed by the local government. Rather, it was a public-private-nonprofit collaboration that included the City of Philadelphia, WHYY (local NPR affiliate), TechnicallyPhilly, NPower PA, William Penn Foundation and Azavea. It incorporates not only government data and APIS but those provided by non-profit organizations and universities.

In fall 2011, the project launched the Open Data Race with paired requests for release of government data with the particular mission and objectives of regional non-profit organizations. The OpenDataPhilly team is now working with the City to see encourage…
