City of Austin, TX!
- In their 2011 Citizen Survey results, Austin also ranked No. 1 in satisfaction among 13 cities with populations of more than 500,000: 65% in Austin versus the average of 42% for other cities including Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Seattle and Boston.
- Austin has always been a big advocate of citizen engagement. They launched a "SpeakUpAustin" campaign to increase citizen involvement in government. They've actively engaged nearly 1,000 people from the community into their decision-making and prioritization process.

OpenDataPhilly.org
The OpenDataPhilly.org web site launched in April 2011. Unlike most open data sites, this was developed by the local government. Rather, it was a public-private-nonprofit collaboration that included the City of Philadelphia, WHYY (local NPR affiliate), TechnicallyPhilly, NPower PA, William Penn Foundation and Azavea. It incorporates not only government data and APIS but those provided by non-profit organizations and universities.

NYC Big Apps Competition
NYC Big Apps is an annual software competition sponsored by NYC Economic Development Corporation, NYC Department of IT & Telecommunications (DoITT), and strategic partner BMW iVentures to develop mobile and web applications that utilize city data and improve the lives of New Yorkers. Now in its third year, BigApps has generated more than 140 apps and made nearly 750 City data sets publicly available. Salt Lake City UT

Apps for Metro Chicago
The Apps for Metro Chicago Illinois competition launched June 24, 2011. In this era of open data, MCIC President Virginia Carlson recognized the need to guide and facilitate public access to local government data through vehicles like this app contest. The competition’s mission is to inspire the development of applications which improve the lives of Metro Chicagoans. Over 250 data sets have been provided by the City of Chicago, Cook County, State of Illinois, and Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, and over $50,000 in prizes will be awarded over the course of the competition.

ACTion Alexandria
Since its launch in February, 2011, ACTion Alexandria, Alexandria, Virginia’s online platform for community change, has mobilized hundreds of citizens to share their ideas, take action, and make an impact in their city. Its impact has been real and immediate. In less than a year, ACTion Alexandria has helped Alexandria nonprofits raise almost $120,000 and build crucial online fundraising and social media infrastructure.
A public-private partnership funded by ACT for Alexandria (community foundation), the City of Alexandria, and the Knight Foundation, ACTion Alexandria is a socially innovative response to a new age of austerity.
