Motorola was handed the no-bid $50 million contract "in a manner that lacked transparency and prudence”, and without the vote of any public body.... Sounds like a crime to me... And anything Motorola is overpriced to start with!

It is about time that candiates for mayor of SF address the improper practices of the Newsom Administration that have triggered the BayWEB procurement scandal, and the resulting federal investigation. The latter is now ongoing.

Mayor Lee's Administration is taking a forthright approach to the issue: The Administration's spokesperson on the issue told outright untruths to the Board of Supervisors about the entire mess. Candiate David Chiu was the lead sponsor of the Superviors' recent legislation to keep BayWEB moving ahead without any examination. One guesses he was absent the day at Harvard Law School when the subject was government corruption.
